To elevate the confidence of their employees and patients, dental offices are changing. They are finding more elaborate ways to enhance the cleanliness and safety of their environment. According to the American Dental Association, the ADS Extraoral Suction (EOS) Unit is the current standard of dental care whenever there is a basic dental surgery. This indispensable equipment ensures the health of dentists, dental staff, and patients. If you want to understand how this EOS unit makes dental offices cleaner and keeps patients safer, here’s what you need to know.

Uses HEPA Filters

A high-efficiency particulate (HEPA) filter is a corrugated mechanical filter that removes about 99.97 percent of airborne particles such as bacteria, dust, mold, and pollen. It isolates particles that are 0.3 μm (microns) in size. The ADS Extraoral Suction is made to decrease the amount of aerosol and droplet spray during dental procedures. If uncontrolled, these aerosols and droplets move from you to your dentist and to the staff.

The suction hood or mouthpiece takes in the dust, aerosols, pathogens, and droplets during every procedure. The particulate/dust filter filters out the particulates. Once the particulates pass through the HEPA filter, the 0.3 μm particles are caught with an efficiency of 99.995 percent. The resulting dry and clean air comes out of the unit’s base compartment. Catching particles with a size of 0.3 μm means that the HEPA filter can trap even viruses in the air.

Has Powerful Suction

The ADS EOS unit’s powerful suction is the main feature of the system. It has 1160 air watts. This means that even if there is resistance to suction, you still have sufficient power to aspirate aerosols. Another indicator of power in this unit is that it needs 12 to 20 ampere. This tells you that it has a strong motor that has 12 to 20 amps of suction.

Removes Aerosols

This EOS unit sprays mist inside your mouth. If combined with an equally strong intraoral suction system, this prevents aerosols from leaving your mouth. This collaboration between two oral suction units prevents infections from settling in the clinic staff, your dentist, and you.

Sterilizes

Ultraviolet (UV)-C is one of the three main types of radiation that comes from the sun. It eliminates the contaminants that the HEPA filter captures. When microorganisms absorb UV-C rays, they are simply destroyed. UV-C targets the weak DNA of these pathogens. The damage inside the pathogens prevents them from multiplying. With continuous exposure to UV-C results in the faster deterioration of harmful microbes.

The ADS EOS unit is indispensable in helping dentists do their job safely during the pandemic. This elevates the trust that you give to your dental expert and clinic staff. At Implant Dentistry Periodontics & Facial Rejuvenation, we believe that having an ADS Extraoral Suction unit makes the dental office cleaner. It also keeps patients safe as they spend time in the dentist’s chair. Please visit our clinics in Tampa and Wesley Chapel, Florida, for an in-person consultation.
